Attention Senior Parents:  FAFSA forms (Free Application for Student Aid) should be completed on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  It is possible to print out a worksheet to complete prior to submitting the FAFSA electronically.  THE FAFSA SHOULD NOT BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO JANUARY 1,  2012.

Caution:  There are imitations of FAFSA online that charge a fee and are scams.  The FAFSA is a free service and you should only use the link above.

Some colleges require the PROFILE application for financial aid.  This form is now entirely on-line.  Visit www.collegeboard.com (click on Students, click on “pay for college”, click on “Profile online”)  for the application and instructions.  This form can be completed at any time.

Senior Newsletters  are available online at www.cchstroy.org, click on guidance, click on Senior Newsletters.  They list the scholarships available and important notices for seniors.  They are also available in the homeroom, and in the guidance office.  Remind your seniors to check them often and apply for the many scholarships.

SAT I, SAT II

Tuesday, November 8, 2011,  is the registration deadline for the SAT I and SAT II Subject Tests to be given December 3 at several area high schools.  Check with your senior’s counselor today if you have any questions.  If your senior needs to take the SAT II Subject Tests for a more competitive college or university, they will also be given on January 28, 2012 at several area high schools.  The registration deadline is Friday, December 30, 2011.  Registration is done online at sat.collegeboard.com.

If your senior plans to play sports at a Division I or II college (or even thinks they might!), he/she should register with the NCAA Clearinghouse on line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.  They must notify guidance so that we can send a transcript now and a final transcript in June.

College Applications continue to come into the guidance office.  We cannot stress enough the importance of applying early to college.  The college admissions office is much like ours.  They will be rushed during the peak period over Christmas and NOW is the ideal time to submit applications.  Please watch the colleges’ deadlines.  If you wish applications to be mailed before Christmas, we ask that they be submitted to guidance no later than December 5, 2011.   Your assistance is appreciated.
