Report cards will be distributed Tuesday, November 13, 2007. Please contact your students counselor if you have any questions or concerns. (235-7100 x 2) Parents of Junior Girls The Junior League of Troy is once again awarding the prestigious Elizabeth Talbot Community Service Award to a junior girl. The honoree must demonstrate a commitment to volunteerism and service to the local community. The award is $500 applied to the students senior year tuition. Applications are due no later than December 1 and are available in the guidance office. Encourage your student to apply if she is eligible. Our annual College Financial Aid Night will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2007, 7 PM, in the library. Among the topics discussed will be filing for financial aid, federal, state and institutional aid programs, deadlines, single-remarried parents and evaluation of financial aid packages. This program will be presented by Peter V. Lorenzo, a Certified Financial Planner. It is strongly recommended that parents of seniors and juniors attend but all are welcome. FAFSA forms (Free Application for Student Aid) should be completed on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. It is possible to print out a worksheet to complete prior to submitting the FAFSA electronically. THE FAFSA SHOULD NOT BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2008. Some colleges require the PROFILE application for financial aid. This form is now entirely on-line. Visit www.collegeboard.com for the application and instructions. An instruction sheet is also available in the guidance office. This form can be completed at any time. Senior bulletins are available in the homeroom, on-line and in the guidance office. Remind your seniors to check them often and apply for the many scholarships. The late postmark deadline for the SAT I / SAT II given on December 1, 2007, is Thursday, November 8. A late fee is now due. If your senior needs to take the SAT II Subject Tests for a more competitive college or university, they will be given again on January 26, 2008 at several area high schools. The postmark deadline is Wednesday, December 26, 2007. If your senior plans to play sports in college (or even thinks they might!), he/she should register with the NCAA Clearinghouse on line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. They must print out the release forms and submit them to guidance. We will send a transcript now and a final transcript in June. College Applications continue to come in very slowly. We cannot stress enough the importance of applying early to college. The college admissions office is much like ours. They will be rushed during the peak period over Christmas and NOW is the ideal time to submit applications. If you wish applications to be mailed before Christmas, we ask that they be submitted to guidance no later than Monday, December 3. Your assistance is appreciated. |
