On March 4, 2008, 10 – 11 AM, the juniors will attend the nationally acclaimed presentation, “Making Your College Search Count”.    This program provides students with crucial information on how to conduct an effective college search and selection.  It is designed to help juniors begin thinking about which colleges would be right for them and what they need to do to apply.  Parents are welcome!

There are still openings in the SAT Prep Course to be held at CCHS.   Cost is $110 per student and you can reserve a seat by paying this amount in the guidance office.   This class traditionally fills up quickly.  The class will be given on Mondays and Wednesday, April 21, 23 and 28 and 30 (four sessions) from 3 pm – 5:45 pm in room 25.  Space is limited to 25 students.

The guidance office will also be hosting a “College Night” for juniors and their parents  on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at 7 PM in the library.  We strongly recommend parents of juniors attend this information program.  Mr. Ned Jones, an admissions counselor at Siena College, will join us to discuss important topics related to the college search and college admissions process.  The program will be geared toward juniors and their parents; however, interested sophomores are also welcome.

The ACT will be given at CCHS on Saturday, April 12, 2008.  The ACT is similar to the SAT except that it has a science section.  The deadline for the application is Friday, March 7, 2008.  Apply on-line at www.actstudent.org.   For your planning purposes, please be aware that the ACT is being held during Spring Break.

CCHS will offer the SAT on Saturday, May 3, 2008.  It is recommended that juniors take this test.  Apply online at www.collegeboard.com.  The application  deadline is Tuesday, April 1, 2008.  A student cannot take the SAT II subject tests the same day.  The SAT II (required by some more competitive colleges) can be taken in June or in the Fall at another local high school.

N.B.  Applying to take either of these tests after the deadline results in a late fee.  Please do not hesitate to call your student’s counselor if you have any questions regarding these important tests.

Guidance would like a copy of all college acceptances/rejections.  All scholarships and college grants will appear in the graduation program but we REQUIRE a photocopy of the award letter.  We will be glad to make the photocopies.
