Scholarships

Applications/information is available in the guidance office regarding the following new scholarships.

Lansingburgh Little League William J. VanPatten Sr. Scholarship—awarded to a high school senior who was a graduate of the Lansingburgh Little League program.  Deadline:  3/14/2012.

Julia O. Wells Memorial Foundation Scholarship—awarded to a senior who plans to pursue a career in professional nursing.  Give your name and a copy of your acceptance letter to Mrs. Pausley in the guidance office so you can be considered.

Alphonso Deal Scholarship—awarded to a minority student planning for a career in law enforcement.  Visit www.blackpolice.org for more information

Herbert Lehman Scholarships—awarded to African American high school graduates and based on academic record, essay and test scores.  Visit www.naacpldf.org/content.aspx?article=32.  Deadline 4/7/2012.

Sallie Mae Fund American Dream Scholarship Program—for minority seniors who can demonstrate financial need, have a 2.5 gpa and planning to attend college.

Miscellaneous

New York State Higher Education Services Corporation is offering a financial aid hotline at 1-800-808-1790 on Tuesdays and Thursdays,  from noon to 5 pm, until February 28th to answer questions about complete the FAFSA.

HVCC is holding a free college financial aid workshop on Weds, February 15 and Thursday, March 15 at 6 pm in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center, meeting room 1.  You need to preregister online at www.hvccc.edu/finaid/workshops.

REMINDERS:

Hudson Valley Community College will hold an “Instant Admissions Day” at CCHS on Wednesday, February 8th.  If you plan to apply to HVCC, sign up in the guidance office today.  You will received your acceptance that day on the spot!

If you have signed up, please remember to hand in your HVCC application prior to February 8th.

NCAA Clearinghouse applications should be completed by all seniors who think they might play sports at a Division I or Division II college. This is done online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. Be sure to notify the guidance office so we can send the necessary transcripts.

 The guidance office would appreciate receiving copies of your acceptance letters.  We will be glad to make the
copies.

All scholarships and grants are listed in the graduation program but we REQUIRE a photocopy of all awards. 

The FAFSA (Free application for Federal Student Aid) is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.   Forms should be completed and submitted as soon as possible. A worksheet your parents can use prior to completing the FAFSA on-line is available  on that website.   CAREFUL – you want the 2012-2013 FAFSA and ONLY at this website.  There are many imitations.

 If any of the colleges you’ve applied to require the PROFILE,   forms are available online at www.collegeboard.com, click on “student”,  click on “css profile” under “Pay for college”.
